OUR PASTOR
ERIK P. HUGET, CRE
I am a true Oregonian, born in Portland the first of five children, growing up in its northeast neighborhood.

We grew up in the Baptist church, and I transferred that membership to Westminster P. C. located in northeast Portland in the late 90’s.

In the early 2000’s I became a commissioned Stephen Minister, followed shortly thereafter becoming a Commissioned Stephen Leader. In 2004 I became an Ordained Elder were I served for two years as co-chair on Stewardship, then one year on the Congregational Care committee. While at Westminster I had the privilege of serving as a Sunday school teacher (3&4years olds) which was a joy.

In the summer of 2005 I began the journey that was to lead me into ministry, and in 2006 I was approved as a trainee in what was then called the Commissioned Lay Pastor program, it is now called Commissioned Ruling Elders program. In 2011, after completion of the Presbytery of Cascades required courses, I was finally qualified to serve.

This was all accomplished while working in the maritime industry. I started as a part-time deck hand, advancing to First Mate and on to Captain and General Manager, earning two U.S. Coast Guard Inland Masters licenses in the process. I transitioned from on the water to marine sales serving commercial and recreational boaters. I have managed two West Marine stores in the Portland area, and currently fill the position of Inventory Specialist.

I did numerous Pulpit Supply calls throughout the northeast presbytery before receiving my first call late in 2012, to serve at Clatskanie P. C.. During my time at Clatskanie I served on the Committee on Ministry for two three year terms. My second term I served as moderator. My commission at Clatskanie lasted for nine and a half years.

That brings us to March of 2022 when my next call came from Eagle Creek P. C. where I currently serve.
My wife Jill Johnson and I live in her family home in northeast Portland. When not working we walk, swim, bike. I am also a tennis player and a golfer, and play guitar and mandolin. Additionally, I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in commercial photography from Brooks Institute of Photographic Arts and Science, Santa Barbara, California.

WHAT WE BELIEVE
Our faith can be summarized with these words from The Brief Statement of Faith:

In life and in death we belong to God. Through the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit, we trust in the one triune God, the Holy One of Israel, whom alone we worship and serve.
